""I'll do the best I can Ten Cents..."/"Huh... Oh yeah, of course! Come on Little Ditcher. You can do it.""
— Little Ditcher and Ten Cents, Trapped

Little Ditcher is a small and dirty A-frame crane, usually used for smaller jobs.

Biography[]

The majority of Little Ditcher's work is dredging up the river at Mittsville or oyster fishing in the estuary. Despite his size, he is a part of the Salvage Team and used for salvage operations that require more than one crane.

When a tramper got jammed across the river, it became too late to alert the Salvage Team. Ten Cents put all his faith into Little Ditcher and they set off, only to find that Billy Shoepack had blown up the tramper with his dynamite.

When he was oyster fishing with Sunshine and Pearl, Warrior stopped by to tell them that he was on rock duty, but as he left, his rock barge accidentally ran into Little Ditcher, causing him to spin around on the spot. Sunshine and Pearl could not help but find it funny, but Little Ditcher found the situation rather frustrating. In winter, Little Ditcher was used by Warrior as a barrier to stop an incoming flow of loose logs from destroying Uptown.

Trivia[]

  • In Salty's Lighthouse, Little Ditcher is depicted as a female character (along with Sunshine and Captain Star), presumably to appeal at a wider audience of children.
  • He and Scuttlebutt Pete were meant to have faces, even sporting a cap in the final show. He was also the only faceless character to have headgear. [1]
  • After production on TUGS ended, Little Ditcher's model was kept in storage at Shepperton Studios. It is currently unknown where his model is.
