""Oh, how lovely to have my light on again!/"You look good, Lillie - shining like a film star!"/"Oh, thank you, Warrior! You're a star yourself! Without you, Vienna would have sailed on by!""
Lillie Lightship and Warrior (Bigg Freeze)

Lillie Lightship is a special and much-loved lightship, based at Dem Der Rocks to warn ships of potential hazard. The Star Fleet have the contract to provide her with with fuel to keep her light shining.

Bio

She appeared for the first time in a small role in Sunshine, although she had more important roles in later episodes, particularly the episode (Regatta (also known as 4th July)) in which she was hit by a blinded tramp steamer that made a hole in her side and put her lights out. She was saved by Grampus, and repairs at Lucky's Yard allowed her to view the annual regatta. In the second episode (Pirate), she was muffled by the pirates.

Lillie's light failed for the second time in the episode (Bigg Freeze) which meant that the Star Fleet needed to find another source to guide Hercules into the estuary with the ocean liner (S.S. Vienna).

Personality

Lillie is a friendly and cheerful lightship and has a good friendship with the Star Tugs. She is polite to the Z-Stacks but does not particularly like them. All the Star Tugs value her opinion and put high priority on her well-being. Hercules appears to have a special place in his heart for Lillie.

Livery

Lillie's livery consists of a red hull, a white superstructure, and a red lighthouse. Her name is painted on the sides of her hull in red, inside white rectangles.

Horn Sound

Lillie has a loud foghorn, which is middle-pitched.

Her horn is also a higher pitched version of Zorran's whistle, albeit one toned.

Trivia

  • According to a script titled "Fourth of July", it is confirmed Lillie was imported from the other side of the world.
  • After Tugs' production ended, Lillie Lightship's model was purchased by the Star Tugs Company, an organisation which aimed to restore and preserve the models.
    • It is currently unknown if Lillie Lightship's other face masks still remain in existence.
  • In The Race and Run Aground, Lillie Lightship lacks her name on her hull.
  • Lillie is the most recurring female character in the series.
  • Lillie's face is based on American actress, singer and model Marilyn Monroe.
  • Her name on her travelbox is incorrectly spelt as Lilly.
  • In Regatta, the collision at the beginning was most likely based off of a incident when the RMS Olympic collided with the Nantucket lightship in 1934, resulting in the sinking of the lightship.
    • Interestingly the Lightship concept art for the show was based on Nantucket.
  • In one episode of Salty's Lighthouse Lillie retains her original foghorn sound, while in another she has a stock sound (which was also used for Nantucket as his way of communicating).
  • Lillie’s voice actress was the only one not to be uncovered by any Tugs fanbase. She went unknown for many years until 2019 when a fan rang into the Jo Good show on BBC Radio London regarding a guest, and had mentioned that they liked the show, to which Jo responded asking if they knew she voiced Lillie Lightship in the show.
